Applying for a Library Card


Virginia and North Carolina residents are eligible to apply. Stop by any Suffolk Public Library location or visit our Pop-Up Library or Library2Go to complete an application or apply online for a digital library card. Applicants can also call the library to sign up over the phone: 757-514-7323.

Adult Cards (18+)


Items Required
  • Completed application
  • Photo Identification (examples below)
  • Photograph taken by staff for library records

Juvenile Cards (Under 18)


All juvenile cards linked to the applying Parent/Guardian account.
Items Required
  • Child must be present in order to apply for a library card
  • Completed application
  • Photo Identification of Parent/Guardian
  • Photograph of Parent/Guardian taken by staff for library records

Digital Library Cards

Suffolk Public Library now offers a digital library card option. Sign up for a digital library card online for immediate access to digital content. 

Steps to Apply

  • Click on the My Account button at the top of our website or click here
  • Select "Click Here to Register Now"
  • Complete the steps to submit your information and create a PIN
  • Use the generated barcode number to access eBooks and other eResources

Replacement, Lost or Stolen Library Cards


If your library card is lost or stolen, notify the library immediately at 757-514-7323.
