Have you heard of the card game Magic: The Gathering?
Magic the Gathering Header
It’s been around since 1993. 2018 marks its 25th Anniversary of existence! An estimated 20 million people play the game around globe - are you sure you haven’t heard of it? You may even see it on the big screen, as there are plans for making a movie, though this may not happen for a while.

So, how do you play? In Magic, two (or more) players take the role of wizards, summoning creatures and casting spells to determine who’s the most skilled, powerful, or clever of all. Players have the freedom to choose from a very large number of cards to construct their personalized deck. What this means is that you can play the game pretty much however you want to, whether you’re reducing your opponent’s points to zero, making them run out of cards, or even using cards that, once you fulfill certain conditions, result in victory. Or come out to one of our regular Magic meetups and we'll teach you how to play.

And if you like art, well, I’ll let that speak for itself.

We’ll actually be holding our own tournament in March. Feel free to come out and watch the action! Not to mention there’ll be plenty of other things going on at North Suffolk as well. Let’s talk about the prizes and what the rules of the tournament will be. It will be four, hour-long rounds. Each match will consist of no more than three games, with the winner being the first player to win two games. I will be keeping track of wins and losses. Games that run out of time will be counted as ties.

First prize will get this earthshaking playmat! Dragon versus Ogre, who will win? They will also get their choice of one mythic rare card from a recent Magic set (there will be 7 to choose from).

2nd and 3rd place will get their respective choice of either a Nissa Revane or Liliana Vess action figures and one rare card of their choice from a preselected pool.

For those of you planning to enter the tournament, please check the banned list, up to and including the section titled ‘Legacy.’ For the purpose of the tournament, cards labeled restricted will also be counted as being banned. Other than that, play what you want! If you have any questions or would like to run a decklist past me, feel free to email me! I have no problem checking it for you. I will also be checking decks the day of the event. Register for the tournament here.

I hope to see you there!
