Adult 4.15 Suffolk Speaks Launch TV Screen CHK, MML, NSL.jpg

Suffolk Public Library is launching an oral history project called Suffolk Speaks. Throughout the year, we'll be recording and collecting true stories from community members that will be made available to the public on our website.

We held a launch event on April 15 at Morgan Memorial Library where participants listened to prerecorded stories, got tips on how to best share their experiences, and had the opportunity to record their own story. To see what people experienced at that event and to learn more about Suffolk Speaks, read the article featured in The Virginian-Pilot.

Would you like to record your oral history for the Suffolk Speaks project? Visit our Contact Us page to complete the information form and a staff person will contact you for a recording opportunity.

Don't know what to say? Here are some sample questions to spark some inspiration:

  1. Describe a place in Suffolk that is important to you or where you created a significant memory.
  2. What are the most important lessons you’ve learned in life?
  3. How has Suffolk changed over the time you have had a connection to the city?
